About the YAEL Exam
The YAEL Hebrew Proficiency Test is required of anyone taking the Psychometric Entrance Test (PET) in any language other than Hebrew.
The test is administered by the National Institute for Testing and Evaluation, which also administers the PET. YAEL test scores are used by academic institutions to determine whether the applicant's level of Hebrew is sufficient for acceptance.
Additionally, the YAEL score determines the number of Hebrew language courses students will have to complete during their degree. An exempt YAEL score grants students an exemption from Hebrew courses during their degree and saves not just time but also money.
YAEL Exam - Content and Structure
The time allotted for the YAEL exam is about an hour and a half. The test consists of two parts:
- Part 1 - three sections. Each section contains 3 types of questions: sentence completion, restatement, and reading comprehension. All questions are multiple choice. The time allotted for each section is 20 minutes.
- Part 2 - one section. In this section, you will write an essay of 15-20 lines in Hebrew. The time allotted for this section is 15 minutes.
